About this painting

I was on beautiful, quiet Edisto Island in South Carolina, at Whitmarsh – a deep water dock house (where we have our crazy family beach week reunions) when the idea for this painting came to me.  We swim all day and jump off the best deep water dock on Edisto Island (click on the photos and look at that dock!), watch the strand feeding dolphins blow by the dock, and at night we play guitars and sing into the next dawn.

original contemporary abstract art, painting color palette blues greens, music inspired art, mixed media on canvas

There is only one mixed media component in the painting.  A small photo I found at a flea market somewhere down south, along the Charleston Highway aka the King’s Highway.

Same Old Song (Edisto Island Music)
by Micah Gilbert

I can hear the wave touch shore,
like I have so many times before.
I can feel the rising tide,
when you and I stood side by side.

Give me that same old song, same old song,
give me that same old song, same old song,
again.

When the winter winds will blow,
and all the seasons come and go,
when the spring’s last sun has set,
we’ll have seen the beauty there.

Give me that same old song, same old song,
give me that same old song, same old song,
again.

Counting the stars,
watching these millions of worlds,
as they spin into space,
nothing out of place.
Holding the moon,
in the palm of your hand,
like a child in the sand,
full of innocence and grace

I shall be with you again,
by the shores, we’ll walk again,
we will hear the ocean’s song,
we have carried all along.

Give me that same old song, same old song,
give me that same old song, same old song,
again.

Give me that same old song, same old song,
give me that same old song, same old song,
again.
